What: North Carolina Association of Launderers and Cleaners (NCALC) will hold its regular Winter Meeting February 2-4, 2024, in Durham, North Carolina for planned education, professional networking, association business meetings, and social functions.

Who: All NCALC members, friends, and spouses are encouraged to participate.

Where: On Saturday, February 3, the planned education, networking, and the business meetings of the NCALC standing committees and Board of Directors, will be held at the Croasdaile Country Club, located at 3800 Farm gate Ave., Durham, NC 27705. Dinner social outings are being planned for both Friday and Saturday evenings for attendees to enjoy fellowship with other attendees and to experience local restaurants. Specific locations will be shared with participating registrants.

Accommodations: A small block of hotel rooms has been reserved for our group at the Hilton Garden Inn by Hilton Durham\University Medical Center located at 2102 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27705. Our group rate is $149 per night for reservations made by January 3, 2024. For reservations contact the hotel directly at 919-286-0774.

Friday, February 2

- Early arrivals for individual fun activities

- 6:00 pm Gathering in the Hilton Garden Inn lobby to walk over to very nearby local favorite restaurant Parizade to join our group.

- 6:30 pm Welcome Dinner Social Outing at Parizade

Saturday, February 3

- Breakfast on your own 

- 9:00 am Gathering at the Croasdaile Country Club for networking, coffee, and preparation for the scheduled professional activities.

- 9:30 am Educational Session

- 10:30 am Networking Break

- 11:00 am NCALC Standing Committee Meetings

- Noon Lunch provided

- 1:00 pm NCALC Board of Directors Meeting

- 3:30 pm Meetings Adjourn

- 5:15-6:00 pm* Gathering in the Hilton Garden Inn lobby with to walk or carpool to meet dinner groups at nearby restaurants

Educational Session: What Are You Doing to Improve Your Business? The NCALC Education and Training Committee Chaired by Larry Hill (Dandy Drycleaners & Laundry) has organized an educational session featuring a panel of experienced cleaners who will share recent initiatives that have made a positive impact on their own businesses. Our panel will include Allan Cheatham (Shallotte Cleaners), Brian Harrell (A Cleaner World), and David Makepeace (Medlin-Davis).

About our Speakers

Larry Hill

Hill is owner and operator of Dandy Cleaners and American Dry Cleaners in Charlotte NC. He is a second-generation dry cleaner working in the business since 1978 and owner since 2003. He served as NCALC President for 2012-2014.

Allan Cheatham

Cheatham is the owner and operator of Shallotte Cleaners in Shallotte, North Carolina. He has worked in the dry-cleaning industry for over 40 years, as a student and graduate of UNC Wilmington and then early in his career, in Raleigh, NC as a young married man and father, and finally settling back to his coastal roots in 1997 as an owner and operator of Shallotte/Southport Cleaners. He served as NCALC President for 2020-2022.

Brian Harrell

Harrell has over 27 years of experience in the dry-cleaning industry and currently serves as the Vice President at A Cleaner World in High Point, NC. He is an alumnus of Wake Forest University, where he earned his bachelor's degree, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he completed his MBA. In his role, Harrell collaborates closely with his mentor, Chris Edwards, the President of A Cleaner World. Together, they lead a dynamic and accomplished leadership team dedicated to enhancing the customer and employee experience.

David Makepeace

Makepeace graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1989. He worked as a Commercial Lender for several banks from 1989-1999 in Charlotte, NC, Florence, S.C. and Raleigh, NC. In 2000, Makepeace started working for Medlin-Davis Cleaners in Raleigh. After gaining experience, he purchased a portion of the company in 2010. Makepeace has been involved with NCALC, DLI, and several different cost management groups for over 23 years.  He served as NCALC President for 2018-2020.


Dinner Social Outings: Our dinner outings are designed to give our Winter Meeting participants opportunities for informal networking and fellowship while enjoying some of Durham's favorite restaurants. On both evenings, participants can gather in the Hilton Garden Inn lobby bar area to car pool or walk together to our nearby restaurants to meet our dinner groups.

On Friday evening, our entire group will meet at 6:30pm at Parizade for Mediterranean fare.

For Saturday evening, our participants will join their pre-selected dinner group at one of several fine restaurants. Confirmed reservations* include: 5:45pm at JuJu Durham (Asian Tapas), 6:30pm at M Tempura  (Traditional Japanese), 6:30pm at Metro 8 Steakhouse (American).
